Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for a pediatric nurse practitioner position with your practice. As a Clemson University Doctor of Nursing Practice student in the Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, I offer more than five years of school nursing experience, a background in women’s health, and a strong commitment to caring for children and families in Upstate South Carolina. I hope to bring the clinical judgment, continuity, and family-centered approach I have developed throughout my nursing career to a pediatric care team.
School nursing taught me to assess children independently, recognize when a condition requires urgent intervention, manage chronic illnesses, and communicate clearly with families, educators, and health care providers. Serving as the primary medical professional at a school strengthened my ability to earn trust and make thoughtful decisions in resource-limited settings. I have also trained four new school nurses. These experiences have sharpened my adaptability, leadership, and ability to support colleagues entering unfamiliar roles.
My graduate education has deepened that foundation through pediatric care clinical training and evidence-based practice. I have spent a significant amount of my clinical hours within pediatric primary care, strengthening my clinical skills. For my DNP project, I partnered with Upstate AHEC to develop a free, one-hour continuing education program on type 1 diabetes management for school nurses. This work reflects the kind of provider I intend to be: one who connects clinical care, patient and caregiver education, and community resources to improve children’s health beyond the exam room.
Alongside a 4.00 graduate GPA, I serve as a graduate representative to Clemson’s Graduate Program and as a teaching assistant in two different undergraduate courses. I have also sought additional leadership opportunities and became the student liaison for the South Carolina chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. These roles have strengthened my skills in collaboration, mentorship, and clear communication.
